Sadamisaki Peninsula

The Sadamisaki Peninsula
is the westernmost part of the island of Shikoku,
and is the narrowest peninsula in Japan.
It is covered by the town of Ikata, Ehime Prefecture,
and is home to the Ikata Nuclear Power Plant.
This combination of mountains and ocean make
the Sadamisaki Peninsula a popular sightseeing destination,
and the peninsula is the place of production of a mandarin orange.

Japan northernmost Ficus wightiana 三崎のアコウ
　 三崎町のフェリー埠頭からほど近いところに
４本のアコウが生育する。
アコウはクワ科の植物で、
沖縄などに見られるガジュマルなどと同様、
幹から気根と呼ばれる根を垂らし、
タコの木などと呼ばれることもあるという。
三崎のアコウは日本最北端自生のアコウとして、
天然記念物の指定を国から受けている。

佐田岬半島
　
佐田岬半島は日本一細長い半島で
瀬戸内海国立公園の一部ともなっている。
